Editorial
Although not a huge Star Wars fan, I have to admit that I started clapping like a seal when I came across this wonderful piece of work!
The Millennium Falcon is, of course, an iconic piece of Star Wars history. It’s a starship flown by the wonderful rogue, Han Solo, and his Wookie sidekick, Chewbacca. Having had the pleasure of trying out virtual representations of this legendary spacecraft in other Star Wars based flight combat games, I was desperate to see how it would handle itself in the challenge, authentic climate of FSX.
This comes with a dizzying speed level and a performance that, frankly, I found a little hard to get control of. I get that this is built upon a piece of kit that blows away anything we could realistically expect to see in our own lifetimes, but I just found it so different to anything else I have used in a simulator. While its performance is a novelty, to me it wasn’t hugely enjoyable. It felt out of place, but that’s not to say that it’s a bad take on the model.
Of course the Millennium Falcon would feel out of place to me!
It comes with a range of powerful add-ons such as high thrust and unreal efficiency, as well as a capability of hitting FSX top speeds of 2667KTS. That’s an impressive feat in itself, not to mention the fact that it handles G-force as if it’s just a passing breeze. Add in the fact it provides maximum dynamic pressure, and you have a piece of kit there that is going to feel so different to anything you might have expected.
Impressively Detailed
While the flight aspect is such a challenge to get used to that it all became a little confusing, I did enjoy how detailed the model is. They’ve done a rather spectacular job of building the model, using so much detail on every little rivet and bolt. It even has all the hallmarks of the dirt and decay that you can see all over the Falcon in the movies; it’s a fine touch.
While it’s a bit too arcade-y for me to enjoy too much, I would happily recommend this Millennium Falcon experience to anyone who loves the movie. I’ll definitely keep it around for those times I want to zip around the planet at speeds I can barely comprehend!

May the Force be with you! With this X-Wing from Star Wars, it finally can.
Add a bit of humour and fantasy to your flight simulation experience and see the planet we live on through the eyes of an X-Wing fighter pilot!
Based on the T-65 model, this model gives you a fantastically authentic look and style of aircraft that should really help you see why everyone loves this aircraft so much. The model uses a Mach 1.8 Vmax system meaning that it comes with a really consistent level of performance. It can handle altitude performance without any issues (it’s a spaceship, after all!) and it can also provide you with unbelievable G tolerance and manoeuvrability in even the most awkward of conditions. If you have ever wondered what a modern day take on the X-Wing would feel like then this might be the place to start with.
The animations was something that jumped out at me right away – from the animated R2 bot at the back of the X-Wing to the awesome animated S-Foils that tie up to the spoilers, you have everything you’d need. The spoilers have no drag either, meaning that I could easily use them in multiplayer without making myself or anyone else be put off by their usage.
Obviously, being a fantasy model, it’s hard for me to say if the flight dynamics are right or anything else – what I can say, though, is that if I was to fly an X-Wing I would predict it would feel like this.
It’s a great system that feels like a lot of fun to mess around with, but it also gives plenty of control to take on serious flights with. It even comes with its own virtual cockpit which looks absolutely splendid, giving you a full recreation of the real thing.
The custom sounds it makes also tend to be concurrent with the real thing – now, your aircraft sounds like it’s going to be using the real sounds of an X-Wing. For fans of the series and “authenticity” this should make a major difference to the enjoyment that you get from the overall flight style that you undertake.
Although this was built for FS2004, it seems to run like a dream when tested by FSX Acceleration and has no real performance glitches and issues. An excellent rendition of one of the most famous aircraft ever built in sci-fi its well worth having installed on your machine!
I’m just waiting to get an attempt at other Star Wars aircraft before we can all finally have that big battle in the middle of the skies we’ve all dreamt of having! It’s really a great take on such a fabulous piece of sci-fi history.
